President Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Macron visited Sweden

President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron paid a state visit to Sweden on 30–31 January 2024. Queen Silvia and Brigitte Macron visited Rinkeby School, where they were given presentations of the school, the student health team and the student council. There then followed a discussion and a classroom visit.

In the evening, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia hosted a gala dinner for the French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron. The dinner was served in Karl XI’s Gallery in the State Apartments at the Royal Palace. The invited guests included the French delegation, representatives of official Sweden and Swedes with a particular connection to France.

The King and Queen and the Presidential couple welcomed the guests to the Vita Havet Assembly Rooms before Tuesday evening’s gala dinner.

King Carl XVI Gustaf’s 50th jubilee banquet on the Swedish throne

On the evening of 15 September, a jubilee banquet was served in the Hall of State at the Royal Palace as part of the celebrations for King Carl Gustaf’s 50th jubilee. The guests included the Nordic heads of state and the heirs to the thrones, and representatives from the Government, the Riksdag, the diplomatic corps, authorities, science, industry and culture.

The King accompanied The Queen of Denmark to the table. The Queen was accompanied to the table by The King of Norway. Crown Princess Victoria was accompanied to the table by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. Princess Sofia was accompanied to the table by Count Michael Bernadotte. Mr Christopher O’Neill accompanied Countess Jill Bernadotte. Princess Madeleine was accompanied to the table by Minister Tobias Billström.

Swedish Royal Family host dinner for the Nobel Laureates

On 11 December, King Carl Gustaf of Sweden hosted dinner for the Nobel Laureates at the Royal Palace. Since the traditional dinner had been cancelled during the previous two years as a result of the pandemic, the Nobel Laureates from 2020, 2021 and 2022 were invited this year.

The evening began with the Royal Family hosting a small reception in Queen Lovisa Ulrika’s Dining Hall for the Nobel Laureates and their spouses. The Royal Family and the Nobel Laureates then made their way to the State Apartments. In the Royal Palace’s ballroom, the Vita Havet Assembly Rooms, the other guests were welcomed. These included representatives from the Swedish Parliament and Government, the diplomatic corps, academies, research, science and the Nobel Foundation.

Swedish Crown Princess Family celebrate Princess Ingrid Alexandra coming of age

On Friday 17 June, Swedish Crown Princess Family, that is, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscartook part in the celebrations for Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway’s coming of age.

The gala dinner was attended by royal guests from the European royal families. The Swedish royal family was represented by The Crown Princess, Prince Daniel, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar.

Princess Madeleine become vice honorary chair of the World Childhood Foundation

The World Childhood Foundation announced that Princess Madeleine of Sweden become Vice Honorary Chair of the organisation. The Queen founded Childhood in 1999, and is the Honorary Chair of the foundation. Princess Madeleine has worked for Childhood for many years, and has now been asked by Queen Silvia to become the organisation’s Vice Honorary Chair.

King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia took part in the King’s Rally

On Saturday 21 August, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia took part in the King’s Rally on Öland. The rally was first held to mark The King’s 50th birthday, and this year’s rally was the 14th event.

King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia open a glass exhibition at Solliden

On Tuesday 11 May, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia opened this year’s exhibition at Solliden, created by glass artist Bertil Vallien. This year, the traditional summer exhibition at Solliden Palace will feature works by glass artist Bertil Vallien.

This year’s exhibition is to the first to be held outdoors, and will be on show in the palace’s English Park. The exhibition, which Vallien has named Gatekeeper, showcases the results of many years of artistic experimentation.

Vallien has worked in glass together with Kosta Boda for more than 60 years. He has won many awards, and is represented at museums around the world.

Crown Princess Victoria hold a digital meeting with the Public Health Agency

On Wednesday 29 April, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel held a digital meeting with the Public Health Agency of Sweden’s Director General Johan Carlson and State Epidemiologist Anders Tegnell.

The Crown Princess Couple began the meeting by expressing their gratitude and thanks for the work carried out by the Agency’s staff in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Director General Johan Carlson and State Epidemiologist Anders Tegnell then described the latest developments regarding the spread of infection in Sweden.

King Carl Gustaf received Maria Lannér and Sofia Heilborn

On Tuesday 3 March, King Carl XVI Gustaf held an audience with Maria Lannér and Sofia Heilborn from Amref Flying Doctors. During the audience, The King learnt about Amref Flying Doctors’ operations.

Amref Flying Doctors works for better health in Africa. The organisation is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, and focuses on preventive healthcare and training local health workers.

Amref Flying Doctors was founded in 1957 in Kenya. Its Swedish operations were launched in 1976 to support people in need in Africa.

HM The King has been patron of Amref Flying Doctors since the 1980s.

Queen Silvia attended a gala concert in Gothenburg

On Wednesday 11 September, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia attended a gala concert at Gothenburg Concert Hall to mark the World Childhood Foundation’s 20th anniversary. The World Childhood Foundation works to prevent violence and sexual assaults against children, and its work is based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Queen founded Childhood in 1999, and the organisation now supports 100 projects in countries around the world.

To mark the organisation’s 20th anniversary, a gala concert was held at Gothenburg Concert Hall to raise money for the work of the World Childhood Foundation.
