Royal Family of Sweden attend the Nobel Banquet 2018

On Monday 10 December, Swedish Royal Family attended the traditional Nobel Banquet in the Blue Hall at Stockholm City Hall.

Around 1,300 guests are invited each year to the Blue Hall at Stockholm City Hall, where the Nobel Banquet is served. In addition to the Royal Family, the prize winners and their families, the banquet is also attended by representatives from the Swedish Government and the Riksdag parties.

During the banquet, music on the theme of courage – composed by Mikael Karlsson – was performed by artists including the Royal Court Orchestra, the choir of the Royal Swedish Opera and singer Anna von Hausswolff. The Royal Swedish Ballet also performed.

At the end of the evening, students raised massed standards on the staircase and on the balustrade. Universities and colleges from throughout Sweden were represented.

A laureate from each prize group traditionally gives a speech in Nobel order, in other words in the order that Alfred Nobel listed the prizes in his will: Donna Strickland for physics, Frances H. Arnold for chemistry, Tasuku Honjo for medicine and William D. Nordhaus for economics.
